When new software releases come out I just have to have them. And to get up to speed there’s nothing like having a real design project to experience the new features. But sometimes I also like to spend time simply playing around in the program. It’s a great way to learn a new product and also helps to refresh your design skills if you tend to get the same kind of project assignments over and over and find yourself relying on the same tricks and tools.
In this exercise I was playing with textures and typography using Photoshop CS5. The play project is something I learned to do from a studio class I took at School of Visual Arts. You choose a letter from the alphabet and then think of five nouns that start with the letter and five adjectives. Find images that go with your 10 words. Then open up Photoshop and let the fun begin.
