I normally don’t think much about doors. More often on my mind is whether or not I can find my keys. But when I was in Italy last month I have to confess. I kind of obsessed on their doors…and door ornaments. There were heavy duty wooden doors with iron decoration. And bold door knockers of iron or brass. All were meticulously maintained or restored. And they were everywhere…private residences, apartment buildings, retail stores and duomos (churches). I wonder if the Italians realize how cool and beautiful their doors are?

I’m sure there’s a knock-knock joke in there somewhere. 🙂 FYI, your layout is as beautiful as the ornaments. Breathtaking.
Hi Mary, I really enjoyed this article. I found it while researching door ornaments on Google. Every time I see old doors with lots of details and handcrafted ornaments, handles and knockers, it makes me wonder why we don’t see more of them. Doors are the pathway of our lives. As such, they should provide an experience beyond just keeping people out 🙂 I am running a small site for handcrafted door ornaments myself. Would love to get your feedback on them.
